Last week, Adam presented a virtual "field day" about practices we use on our farm. The webinar was hosted by Organic Association of Kentucky as part of their Field Day programming. Here at Barr Farms, we have raised chickens, beef cattle and Certified Organic mixed vegetables on a fragipan (shallow soil) in the Ohio River Valley for 13 years. In response to increasing climate challenges – heavy rain events, high humidity all year, wetter than normal summers, and the possibility of droughts in the fall – we have implemented several mitigating systems.
The webinar covers our use of rye grass and cover crops, biochar, drainage and other adaptations to increase farm resiliency. It was well attended and has some Q&A at the end. If you want to take a deep dive into our farming practices watch the webinar here.
